A STEP TOWARD A BRIGHTER FUTURE

APRIL 30, 2024

I want to give you a glimpse of our world, the world of my family and our little Édouard, who has cystic fibrosis, by sharing our story with you.

We are more than just a simple family: We are a united force that stands in solidarity. We treasure and deeply cherish every moment spent together. After Édouard was born, we chose to live our lives intensely, take advantage of the outdoors, enjoy walks in nature and spend time together. But when Édouard was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, our world fell apart.

Although my spouse and I were filled with fear, sadness and worry, we found comfort in the support we received from loved ones. Together, we have found the strength to take on this challenge and stand united in the face of adversity.

Édouard, our little ray of sunshine, is a lively, curious and joyful child. Despite the challenges confronting him, he continues to be brave and inspires us every day. Medical advances such as Trikafta have brought new hope in our fight against cystic fibrosis. The treatments have really improved Édouard’s quality of life and given us confidence that betters days are ahead.

Nevertheless, we are aware that not everyone has access to treatments and that treatments are not a permanent solution. That is why we hope that research continues and medicines can be found for all the variants of CF: We want everyone to have the chance to live their full lives and keep the disease and its health impacts in check.

Our participation in the Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis History is a symbol of our determination to make a difference. We are walking not only for Édouard, but for all Canadians who live with CF, in the hope that this disease will be history someday.

Since Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month is right around the corner, I invite you to join the 20th Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis History on Sunday, May 26. Your participation can help change the lives of all Canadians with cystic fibrosis.
