WE’VE COME FAR, BUT THERE’S MORE TO DO: HELP CYSTIC FIBROSIS CANADA BUILD A FUTURE W/O LIMITS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON
TORONTO, December 3, 2024 – This Giving Tuesday, Cystic Fibrosis Canada is launching its annual holiday fundraising campaign, W/O Limits, with a goal to raise $300,000 for the 4,400 Canadians living with cystic fibrosis (CF). With advancements in CF treatment and care, there has never been more hope for people with cystic fibrosis. But challenges remain. Many still lack access to life-changing medications, face uncertainty about their future access to treatment, or wait for breakthroughs in research as they continue to face the life-limiting effects of CF. This holiday season, donations made ensure Cystic Fibrosis Canada can continue building a future without limits for every Canadian with CF.
The campaign features powerful stories from Canadians impacted by cystic fibrosis, including Stephanie Stavros, who lives with CF. “Cystic fibrosis has been a constant in my life,” shared Stephanie. “At six years old, I remember hearing the grim reality of CF and crying myself to sleep. Decades later, the life-changing CF drug Trikafta gave me a second chance—my first deep breath in years, my first glimpse of a future without limits. But earlier this year, I received the devastating news that my access to Trikafta would be revoked. It’s terrifying, and I’m not alone. Today, you have the chance to change lives. Your support means everything to me and families like mine.” This year’s campaign also highlights the story of two-year-old Robin, whose parents are waiting for access to the same treatment that transformed Stephanie’s life. Robin’s mother, Claire, shares, “Every day, we watch Robin’s joy limited by cystic fibrosis. Hours of treatments limit his life, and his frustration is heartbreaking. Knowing that life-changing medications like Trikafta exist but remain out of reach for Robin in Canada is devastating. Today, your gift could change that. Together, we can give Robin and others like him the chance to sing, dance, and explore W/O Limits.”
Donations made from Giving Tuesday on December 3 through until December 31 will be matched dollar-for-dollar, doubling their impact and supporting the following key priorities that are essential to building a future without limits for everyone with CF:
- Expanding access to treatments like Trikafta for all Canadians who could benefit.
- Driving groundbreaking research to develop new therapies for those not yet helped by current treatments.
- Supporting families with mental health resources and practical care.
- Improving clinical care across Canada to meet the evolving needs of people with cystic fibrosis.
“Today, Canadians have the opportunity to give more than hope; they can drive needed progress,” said Kelly Grover, President and CEO of Cystic Fibrosis Canada. “Your generosity has changed lives. Thanks to your support, many people with cystic fibrosis can live longer, healthier lives, but we are not done. Together, we can ensure that no one is left behind as we build a future for everyone living with cystic fibrosis, a future where cystic fibrosis no longer limits lives.”
Donations made this holiday season help Cystic Fibrosis Canada continue to advocate for access to treatments, invest in critical research and provide support to families in need.
