CF Canada is proud to celebrate Dr. Patrick Daigneault, recipient of Cystic Fibrosis Canada’s 2025 Multidisciplinary Award for Medicine, for his outstanding contributions to cystic fibrosis (CF) care. Dr. Daigneault is a pediatric respirologist and clinical researcher in the department of pediatrics of the CHU de Québec-Université Laval since 2005 and has been a long standing member of Cystic Fibrosis Canada’s Healthcare Advisory Council and heavily involved in the development of the new Canadian Consensus Guidelines for CF care.

Dr. Daigneault’s introduction to CF care came through a colleague during his training at the CHU de Québec and at later at Sainte-Justine Hospital in Montreal. “My mentors were involved with CF Canada in the 1980s and 1990s,” he says. “They showed me how collaborative CF care could be.”

That sense of collaboration has stayed with Dr. Daigneault throughout his career. Today, he describes the CF community as “a family,” where professionals, patients, and families work together toward shared goals. He acknowledges the joy of working alongside families and witnessing growth and milestones.

Dr. Daigneault is committed to passing on the knowledge and values he received early in his career. “I was taught by incredible people in Quebec and Montreal, and I want to do the same for the next generation,” he says. He regularly mentors young paediatric respirologists, answering questions and sharing insights. “I make sure it’s not a competition,” he emphasizes. “I want to give them as much as possible so they can succeed. It’s about continuity, ensuring the same level of care and dedication for years to come.”

Dr. Daigneault is optimistic about the future of CF care, emphasizing the importance of standardizing practices across Canada and making sure every patient receives equal care — he notes, “we’re getting there.” For him, the next chapter is about ensuring every family receives the same high-quality, multidisciplinary support, while also equipping the next generation of CF clinicians with the knowledge and guidance they need to build on this strong foundation of care.

Cystic Fibrosis Canada is pleased to recognize Dr. Daigneault ‘s decades spent improving CF care, mentoring future leaders, and strengthening the community.
